Bloodless Care Center and Patient Blood Management
Managing Your Bloodless Care and Patient Blood Needs
There are many reasons why you may prefer to avoid the use of donor blood or primary blood components (red cells, white cells, platelets or plasma). You may have a personal preference or religious conviction that prevents you from receiving blood transfusions. Perhaps you have concerns that transfusions may pose a risk.
Whatever your reason, we believe that you deserve to have peace of mind, and to have your wishes treated with respect and dignity. At Health Quest, many physicians participate in the Bloodless Care Center and Patient Blood Management program. As an institution, we are committed to working with you to pursue non-blood medical and surgical management.
If you are a parent who wishes to avoid transfusions of donor blood for your child, please request a consult with our Bloodless Care Center and Patient Blood Management coordinator. We will explore bloodless treatment options and work with you to meet your goal.
Even if you do not currently need medical care, you may contact us to discuss your wishes for future care, including advance directives and care in case of emergency situations.

Levels of Patient Blood Management Preferences
The level of bloodless care participation is identified during a consultation between your physician, you and the program coordinator. The program medical director and program coordinator are available to assist physicians in identifying an appropriate treatment program to reduce the risk of anemia and coagulation disorders associated for all patients before, during and after treatment.
Participation Level One:
Due to religious reasons or personal preference, you refuse blood transfusions in all cases, even in a life-or-death situation.
You do not want blood transfusions or primary blood components as part of your treatment plan.
You may consent to blood fractions derived from blood components.
Participation Level Two:
You have concerns about the risks of blood transfusions.
You may have several conditions to your participation in the Patient Blood
You request that blood transfusions are only given when all other options have been exhausted.
You consent to blood transfusions and pre-donated blood (elective process only) in life-or-death situations.
